S. Cooper Elementary in Sunbury, N.
C. Born in 1871, Holland's journey began at Hampton Institute, leading her to become a Jeanes Fund instructor in 1911.
She played a vital role in the education of African American students, supervising 22 rural schools and becoming the state supervisor for Negro elementary education. Passionate about parental involvement in education, she founded North Carolina's first parent-teacher association for African Americans in 1928.
