DID YOU KNOWβ¦.!?African Americans have significantly less intergenerational wealth compared to white Americans. The median wealth of Black families is just 13% of the median wealth of white families

ποΈ President Donald Trump's candidacy for re-election in 2024 could benefit from growing support among nonwhite men without a college degree while potentially losing ground among educated white women, according to The Atlantic. This would build on Trump's gains with both demographic groups in the 2016 to 2020 period. π Recent polls have indicated that Trump now attracts roughly 20% support among Black voters and up to 45% among Latinos, more than any other GOP presidential nominee since the 1960s Civil Rights Era. Trump's backers argue that policies surrounding crime, affordability, and immigration issues, as well as the inroads made with these groups in the past generation, underpin the increased support. Although Trump may be able to build on these advantages, Democratic strategists believe Trump's policies, condemnation of Black Lives Matter, and legacy on immigration will alienate minority voters and erode his gains. β¨

Former President Barack Obama could potentially be a secret weapon for President Joe Biden's campaign, particularly with Black voters. Obama has been an effective surrogate for Democrats, using his star power to raise funds and mobilize Black voters. πͺπ As America's first Black president, Obama remains a popular and influential figure among key groups important to the Biden coalition π₯π. He could help energize and persuade Black voters who remain unmoved by Biden's handling of the economy and are outraged by his administration's response to the war in Gaza. π‘β Obama has already joined Biden for a successful fundraising event and made the case for Biden's stance on the Middle East conflict. His positive vision for the future and ability to communicate hope could be valuable in countering the appeal of former President Donald Trump. However, both Obama and Biden's camps will likely be measured about when they use him, allowing Biden to develop his own political identity. Ultimately, Black voters will need to consider if they want a diplomat who seeks to resolve conflicts or a divisive leader who creates more conflict. π€π While there is no perfect candidate, Obama's support for Biden and his accomplishments in the presidency provide a positive case for his reelection. π³οΈπ

The right-wing attack on Tennessee State University (TSU) and its Board of Trustees has larger consequences for the Black community, according to LaTosha Brown, co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund. TSU is owed over $2.1 billion in state funds, according to a study conducted by the Biden administration. The recent removal of eight out of the 10 trustees by Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee is an attempt to deflect from the state's responsibility to the university. Attacks on HBCUs have a tremendous impact on the Black community as these institutions are not only centers for education but also centers of Black life. Black talent mostly comes out of HBCUs, so attacking these institutions is an attack on opportunities for Black people. To support TSU and HBCUs in general, stakeholders should demand that states pay the debts owed to these institutions and fully fund them. πͺπΎπ
Mississippi has a long history of voter suppression, with an 1890 rule that permanently strips people convicted of certain crimes of their right to vote still present in the state's constitution. This practice of felony disenfranchisement affects an estimated 55,000 people today. State lawmakers recently rejected a bill that would have restored voting rights to some nonviolent offenders. Throughout history, Mississippi has used violence, terror, and Jim Crow laws to keep power out of the hands of Black citizens. In 1868, nearly 97% of eligible Black men π¨βπ¦±π¨β𦱠were registered to vote in Mississippi, but by 1892, less than 6% were registered. The state's constitution was rewritten in 1890 to add felony disenfranchisement, literacy tests, and poll taxes as voter suppression methods. While the Voting Rights Act of 1965 prohibited racial discrimination in voting, mass incarceration and challenges in accessing ballots have continued to impact voting rights in Mississippi. π³οΈπ

Mississippi's Jim Crow laws, which were implemented after the U.S. Civil War, continue to haunt Black voters in the state π. The laws were designed to disenfranchise Black voters and maintain political control for white supremacists π«π³οΈ. One of the lasting effects of these laws is felony disenfranchisement, which permanently strips the right to vote from individuals convicted of certain low-level crimes, many of which are more likely to be committed by Black people π. As a result, approximately 55,000 Mississippians, most of whom are Black, have lost their voting rights due to felony disenfranchisement in the past 30 years βοΈ. Efforts to overturn the disenfranchisement law have been unsuccessful, and the law continues to suppress Black voices in the state β.
Highlights:
β’ White supremacists used felony disenfranchisement to suppress the Black vote βπΎ
β’ Felony disenfranchisement in Mississippi disproportionately affects Black individuals π«π₯

In this article, Dr. John Warren discusses the relationship between Democrats, President Biden, and the Black vote. He highlights the importance of the Black vote in the election that put Biden in office, but criticizes Biden for not doing enough to address the needs and concerns of the Black community. π
Warren suggests that Biden has not used his power effectively to pass important voting rights and civil rights legislation. He also emphasizes the need for investment in Black communities to mobilize the Black vote. πͺπ°
Additionally, Warren argues that the fight for equality and inclusion is ongoing and that Black voters should not be taken for granted by Democrats. He concludes by stating that the Black vote has the power to make a difference and calls for support to ensure that Black voters go to the polls and re-elect Biden. πβπ³οΈ
Florida's recently enacted six-week abortion ban is expected to disproportionately harm Black and brown Americans. The ban, signed into law by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, would forbid doctors from terminating pregnancies after six weeks of gestation. Advocates argue that the ban will particularly affect marginalized communities who may face financial and logistical challenges when seeking abortion care outside the state. The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice has criticized the ban for putting politics over health and notes that it affects people of color, the LGBTQ community, those who are disabled, and Latinas. However, there is hope that voters could overturn the ban as they will have an opportunity to vote on a November ballot measure that could reverse the six-week abortion ban. ππ«π€°πΎββοΈπ«π

Former President Donald Trump and the MAGA GOP are pushing the narrative that racism against white people is a significant issue in America. However, the reality does not support this claim, as there are numerous disparities between white Americans and minority groups in terms of income, wealth, homeownership, and voting access. Trump and his supporters are using this false narrative as a way to maintain power and control the American government. They have actively worked to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and have promised to end anti-racism initiatives within the federal government if they regain power. This aligns with the agenda of authoritarian governments, which are driven by fear and hate. Ultimately, this strategy seeks to marginalize and oppress racial, gender, and religious minorities. π«π‘π ββοΈπ ββοΈπ ββοΈποΈπ₯π

Over 400 lawmakers, activists, civil rights leaders, musicians, and actors have written a joint letter to President Joe Biden urging him to support Congressional bills on racial equity and reparative justice through executive actions and orders. βοΈ The signatories have been pushing for a meeting with the White House for several months. The letter emphasizes the urgency of addressing racial equity and reparations, stating that "the state of our Union depends upon" these bills. π The letter's timing on April 4 coincides with the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and highlights the historic significance of his death to the struggle for equity and justice. π Some lawmakers have been working on bills focused on racial equity and reparative justice, including legislation exploring the history of enslavement, post-Jim Crow discrimination, and the effects of slavery and institutional racism. ππβ

An activist who goes by the name "world's sexiest albino" is facing trial after allegedly scamming nearly $500,000 from donors through a fake Black Lives Matter charity. Sir Maejor Page, also known as Tyree Conyers-Page, is being charged with wire fraud, concealment money laundering, and money laundering. Page set up a bank account and social media page for "Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta Inc." π€π€, posing as a charitable foundation. He allegedly used the donations for personal expenses, including buying a residence and vacant lot in Ohio, purchasing fancy suits and accessories, and even buying a handgun and two AR-15s. The increase in donations came following the death of George Floyd and the subsequent protests and riots. The trial is ongoing, and Page has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation has distanced itself from Page and his organization. βπ½βπΎβπΏ
