President Joe Biden's approval rating on his handling of the conflict between Israel and Gaza is continuing to decline as voters express frustration with his administration's response. A recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found that Biden's job approval rating on dealing with the conflict is at 36%, down from 39% last month and 44% in October. Biden has shifted his tone since the war's beginning, moving from blanket support for Israeli military missions to a more nuanced view that emphasizes limiting civilian casualties and seeking a way out of the war. He has called for a ceasefire and pressured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act more carefully in the war. However, Biden's shift in policy is being seen by voters as driven by domestic politics rather than national security concerns, with many perceiving his actions as an attempt to appease younger voters and college campuses that have been critical of his administration. Despite the attention the protests have received, younger Americans prioritize domestic issues like the economy and job security over the war in Gaza. It remains to be seen how much of an impact the conflict will have on Biden's chances for reelection.
The GOP needs to find someone who is embraced by Black America as a representative of conservative values
Auburn University Food Services rolled out a Black History Month menu featuring fried chicken and collard greens which sparked controversy
L.T. endorsed Donald Trump and Republicans are using him to attract Black voters
The GOP's approach to politics can be considered "race baiting" as they try to attract various demographics, including nonwhite voters
However, according to Pew Research, most nonwhite voters do not support the Republican Party
Republicans recruit Black conservative commentators to validate their viewpoints, but these commentators do not actually believe in conservative principles
The Republican Party needs to find a universally respected Black person to attract more Black voters, but they care more about validating whiteness

Vice President Kamala Harris recently spoke at a convention for the Service Employees International Union in Philadelphia, aiming to strengthen support among union members who are considered a crucial voting bloc. Harris highlighted the differences between Democrats and Republicans, emphasizing that the Biden administration is focused on helping working-class families while Republicans cater to the wealthy. The support of organized labor is crucial for President Biden's re-election campaign as some union members have shifted towards former President Donald J. Trump in recent years. Despite the endorsement of prominent unions, surveys show that union members' support for Biden is not significantly higher than for Trump. Harris's speech aimed to remind the crowd of what the Biden administration has done for workers and to solidify their support. She emphasized the administration's efforts to expand health care access, forgive student debt, and raise wages, stating that "when unions are strong, America is strong."

Lawmakers are urging President Joe Biden to improve his messaging in order to win back support from the Black community, who helped to send him to the White House four years ago. A recent poll found that former President Donald Trump is winning more than 20% of Black votes in key battleground states, a significant increase from the previous election. Democrats believe that there is a disconnect between the actions of the Biden administration and the perception of those actions among Black voters. Issues such as unemployment, underemployment, and affordable housing are still major concerns for many in the Black community. Lawmakers emphasize the importance of showing the tangible benefits that the administration has provided, such as investments in Black entrepreneurship, historically Black colleges and universities, and an increase in Black wealth. They also point out the potential impact of Biden's handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on voter turnout among young voters of color.

The California Senate has advanced a series of reparation proposals that aim to address the injustices faced by Black Californians throughout history. The proposals include:
• The creation of an agency to help Black families research their family lineage and determine their eligibility for future restitution.
• The establishment of a fund for reparations programs.
• Compensation for Black families whose property was unjustly seized by the government.
These proposals, inspired by recommendations from a task force, have now passed to the state Assembly. While there is no proposal for widespread payments to descendants of enslaved Black people, the bills represent progress towards reparations efforts. California has taken a lead on reparations, with no other state making comparable advancements in addressing the issue. Some opponents of reparations argue that the state is overpromising what it can deliver, especially considering the budget deficit it is facing. However, supporters see these proposals and future laws as significant steps towards achieving more comprehensive reparations in California.

Detroit could potentially be without Black representation in Congress once again as the top candidate, Adam Hollier, has been taken off the ballot due to insufficient valid signatures. This ruling by Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett could leave Detroit without Black representation in Congress for the second consecutive term. Hollier had submitted 1,550 signatures, surpassing the requirement of 1,000, but close to half of the signatures were found to be invalid. This is a blow to Detroit's Black community, which had rallied behind Hollier. The ruling can be appealed to the Michigan Secretary of State's office. In the meantime, U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar, who defeated Hollier in the Democratic primary in 2022, has a major cash advantage and is expected to secure the primary win.

70 years after the Supreme Court's landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education, America remains both more diverse and more segregated. According to an analysis by the Associated Press, while the number of Black and white students attending racially homogeneous schools is at an all-time low, there are still large percentages of students of color who attend schools with very few white students. The largest school districts in the country have experienced a surge in segregation since the 1990s, with Hispanic segregation now worse than it was in the 1960s. Efforts to desegregate schools have faced resistance, and progress has been slow and uneven. Even though classrooms have become more diverse in terms of demographics, racial imbalance and segregation persist, which has been linked to poorer outcomes for students.

Coco Gauff, the reigning U.S. Open champion, expressed her frustration with the "current state" of the Florida government and called it a "crazy time" to be a Black resident in the state. She specifically mentioned her concerns about book bans in the state and encouraged young people and her peers to vote. Gauff emphasized the importance of using one's voice and exercising the right to vote, regardless of party affiliation. In response, a spokesperson for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated that the state is "thriving" under his leadership, citing the strong economy, education system, and tourism numbers. Gauff, who has been vocal about racial injustice and police brutality, has not publicly endorsed any candidate and remains actively involved in her community. She won her first Grand Slam title in 2023 at the age of 19, becoming the youngest American to win a U.S. Open since Serena Williams.

In a close vote, St. Johns County has been selected as the site for the new Florida Museum of Black History, according to a state panel. The committee split 5-4 in favor of St. Johns County over proposals from Eatonville and Opa Locka. The St. Johns site edged out the competition due to its historical significance in the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The museum is envisioned to cover the size of a city block, with 100,000 square feet of exhibition space in 10 halls. Supporters of Eatonville cried foul when it was revealed that one committee member had ranked Eatonville significantly lower than any other site. Eatonville, home to the oldest incorporated Black community in the US, argued that it made historical and financial sense to choose their location. However, St. Johns County had gathered support from several area nonprofits and neighboring counties, positioning the museum as a regional asset for the entire state. Now, a feasibility study for the St. Johns site will be conducted before plans for the museum construction are submitted in July.
