President Donald Trump held a rally in Philadelphia at Temple University on Saturday night in an attempt to attract Black voters. However, Trump has a shaky past with the city and has not won the popular vote there in either the 2016 or 2020 elections.
He has also made negative comments about the city, insinuating that "bad things" happen there. The Democratic National Committee responded to Trump's attempt to sway Black voters by placing posters and billboards around Philadelphia highlighting the negative impact another Trump term would have on the Black community.
One billboard near the Temple campus stated that if Trump wins, "Black families lose" and highlighted Trump's record on Black unemployment and plans to slash Obamacare, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. The rally comes as Pennsylvania is seen as a key battleground state for both Trump and Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

In a David and Goliath battle, Lauren Ashley Simmons, a queer Black woman and labor organizer from Houston, challenged and defeated State Rep. Shawn Thierry, a Democrat who voted in favor of three Republican-led bills restricting the rights of transgender teens and children.
Simmons was devastated by Thierry's vote, viewing it as a betrayal of vulnerable families. She decided to run against Thierry, ultimately winning the Democratic primary election and becoming the progressive candidate for the Houston-area district.
Simmons joins a growing group of LGBT+ lawmakers in Texas who are fighting against a wave of anti-LGBT+ legislation in the state. She is determined to work towards healing the wounds caused by the harsh policies and fighting for equality for all Texans.

Despite former President Donald Trump's legal battles and indictments, there are still several rappers who continue to support him. Trump was found guilty on 34 counts in his hush money trial in New York and has faced numerous charges, including racketeering and fraud.
However, artists like Sexyy Red and Kodak Black have stood by him. Sexyy Red commended Trump for pardoning Lil Wayne and distributing stimulus checks, while Kodak Black believes the hate towards Trump is unjustified.
Other rappers who have expressed support for Trump include Kanye West, Fivio Foreign, 6ix9ine, Sheff G, Sleepy Hallow, and OT7 Quanny. They have publicly endorsed Trump during his campaign stops and rallies and have proudly worn "Make America Great Again" hats.
Despite the controversial nature of Trump's presidency, these rappers continue to stand by him.

In this article, Lawrence Mishel highlights the importance of addressing racial disparities in various aspects of society, such as income, wages, health, housing, and employment. Mishel argues that these disparities are persistent, pervasive, and sizable, and cannot be ignored.
He emphasizes that it is essential to engage in discussions about the best ways to eliminate racial inequities while building a broad-based movement to eliminate economic and racial injustice. Mishel suggests that universal policies, which aim to serve everyone without regard to group membership, status, or income, would be most beneficial in addressing racial disparities.
He also discusses the concept of targeted universalism, which involves setting universal goals pursued through targeted processes to achieve those goals. Additionally, Mishel acknowledges the need for some effective race-specific policies to fully eliminate racial disparities.
He concludes by emphasizing the importance of building a multiracial coalition to challenge corporations, employers, and the wealthy who benefit from the current system.

The battleground state of Georgia is once again set to play a crucial role in the upcoming 2024 election as both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump seek to win over wary voters. The state, which saw the closest margin of victory in the 2020 election, will test which candidate can assemble the winning coalition needed to secure victory.
Trump's legal troubles and controversial actions may hinder his support among moderate Republicans and independents, while Biden faces challenges due to an inflationary economy, the Middle East conflict, and immigration problems. One key area both candidates are focusing on is Fayette County, an affluent Atlanta suburb that has been shifting left in recent years.
Voters in Fayette County are looking for a candidate they find less alarming than the alternative and are dispirited with the Trump-Biden rematch. Both campaigns are investing heavily in Georgia to secure crucial votes and ensure victory in this key battleground state.
Black men are expressing frustration and questioning the value of their vote as they prepare to participate in the upcoming election. The Black Male Voter Project recently hosted the No Cap Conference, aimed at educating and engaging young Black men who are typically disengaged from the election process.
The conference featured rap battles as well as seminars on election misinformation and the history of the 15th Amendment. The goal was to inspire political awareness and involvement among Black men, particularly in local and federal elections.
Many Black men feel that campaign messaging and the failure to deliver on promises impact their overall trust and participation in the election process. In an election year where the Black vote could be pivotal, addressing the concerns and frustrations of Black men will be key to securing their support.

In a Pew Research Center poll, it was found that a large percentage of Americans believe in various conspiracy theories surrounding African-Americans, such as the idea that black individuals are put in prison for profit and that the police do little to stop drugs and guns from entering black neighborhoods. While these beliefs are rooted in historical mistrust of American institutions, it is important to question whether they reflect reality in 2024.
However, Democrats, who rely on the black vote to win elections, often exploit these misconceptions during their campaigns. They ramp up the victimhood rhetoric every four years, leading to unsettling events like Joe Biden's commencement speech at Morehouse College, where he focused on the George Floyd case rather than uplifting and inspiring the students.
By perpetuating these misconceptions, Democrats hinder progress in race relations and fail to have genuine conversations about the real issues.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the support of Black voters in Georgia is becoming increasingly vital for both President Joe Biden and Republican Donald Trump. While Black voters in swing states like Georgia overwhelmingly supported Biden in the 2020 election, recent polls suggest that their support may be wavering.
Trump and Biden have made efforts to court Black voters during their recent campaign stops in Georgia, and both candidates see the potential impact that Black voters could have on the election outcome. Experts believe that the Biden-Harris ticket is at risk of losing some votes to Trump, while others predict that apathetic left-leaning voters may not show up at the polls.
Recent polls have indicated strong support for Trump among Black voters in Georgia, with the potential for a significant victory for the Republican Party. The outcome of the election may ultimately hinge on the support of Black voters and their level of enthusiasm for the candidates.

According to a recent report from Politico Magazine, President Joe Biden is facing skepticism from black voters in Milwaukee, which could cost him support in the critical swing state of Wisconsin. Black voters reportedly have "serious and lingering doubts about Biden and whether he's delivered on his promises to them.
" Some black voters voiced grievances against Biden, including his handling of the border crisis and his failure to bring about real change in the criminal justice system. Additionally, black voters are dissatisfied with the allocation of resources, as they see other groups receiving public benefits while their own communities are neglected.
Biden's support for Israel's military offensive against Hamas has also alienated some black voters. A recent CBS poll showed that Trump has 24% support among black voters nationwide.
In an effort to secure the Black vote in the key swing state of Wisconsin, the Biden campaign is implementing a targeted strategy to engage with low-propensity Black voters in Milwaukee. Campaign volunteers are using an app called Reach to identify and contact voters who did not participate in the 2020 or 2022 elections.
The volunteers are signing up these voters, engaging in personal conversations about voting for Biden, and encouraging them to organize themselves alongside the campaign. While many Black voters express concerns about Biden's policies and are critical of his record, others are dissatisfied with the current administration's handling of issues affecting Black communities.
Although Trump has suggested that he is gaining support from Black voters, polls indicate that Biden may be losing some of the Black support that he had in the 2020 election, for reasons such as the high cost of living and persisting crime rates. However, the Biden campaign remains hopeful that by highlighting Biden's policy accomplishments, such as support for Black small businesses and low unemployment numbers, they can win back Black voters' support.
The article highlights the importance of engaging with the Black electorate in swing states like Wisconsin and points to the need for improved outreach efforts by the Democratic Party.

A new national survey has found that 21.3 million American citizens of voting age do not have ready access to documents proving their citizenship, such as a U.
S. birth certificate, passport, or naturalization certificate.
The survey, conducted on behalf of VoteRiders, the Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement at the University of Maryland, and the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law, also revealed that at least 3.8 million of these citizens do not have the necessary documents at all.
While the reasons for this lack of documentation were not covered in the survey, previous research has shown a variety of obstacles to obtaining such documents. Requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote would create significant barriers for eligible voters, according to the survey's results.
The poll also revealed that 11% of American citizens of color who are of voting age lack access to proof of citizenship, compared to 8% of white citizens.

President Donald Trump has narrowed his vice presidential shortlist to a handful of contenders as he prepares to announce his pick in the days before, or perhaps even at, next month's Republican National Convention. The article outlines the potential strengths and weaknesses of each contender, as well as Trump's considerations in making his decision.
The candidates include North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Ohio Senator J.D.
Vance, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, and Florida Congressman Byron Donalds. Each candidate brings different qualities to the table, such as personal rapport with Trump, fundraising abilities, debate skills, and appeal to certain voter demographics.
The final decision will depend on various factors and may still be subject to change due to Trump's unpredictable nature. Overall, Trump is looking for a vice president who is qualified to take over as commander in chief and who can help secure his reelection.

The Biden-Harris 2024 Campaign has committed $1.5 million to advertising with the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) in an effort to reach African American voters.
The announcement was made by Jasmine Harris, the Director of National Black Media for Biden-Harris 2024, during the NNPA's Annual National Convention. The campaign recognizes the importance of Black-owned media in shaping political messaging, mobilizing voters, and advocating for Black issues.
The partnership with the NNPA will help the campaign meet Black voters where they are and emphasize the stakes of the election for Black America. The Black Press has a long history of amplifying African American voices and will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2027.
The advertising deal not only supports the campaign, but also stimulates the local economy by supporting the 230-plus Black-owned small business media companies that are part of the NNPA.

In a thought-provoking article published in Newsweek, podcast host Rob Smith, a black and gay conservative, explains his continued support for former President Donald Trump despite facing racial and homophobic harassment by Trump's supporters. Smith, who left the Republican Party after being targeted by far-right extremists, voted for Trump in the 2020 election and plans to vote for him again in 2024.
He cited border security, inflation, and the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan as reasons for his opposition to President Joe Biden. Smith also challenges the notion of identity politics, arguing that people should not be confined to a particular political ideology based on their appearance or sexual orientation.
He criticizes both the Republican Party's fringe elements and the hypocrisy of liberals in response to his experience. Smith's decision reveals the complexity and diversity within the black and LGBTQ+ communities when it comes to politics.
