In a Black church service in Philadelphia, President Joe Biden called for unity among his supporters and addressed concerns about his age and re-election bid. Despite some Democratic lawmakers urging him to step aside, Biden remains optimistic and has received strong endorsements from key party members.

He met with campaign supporters in Philadelphia and emphasized the need for continuous effort leading up to the election. Biden's political standing remains fragile, with calls for him to step aside growing louder.

However, he has received key endorsements from figures like Nancy Pelosi and James Clyburn, which are crucial as the Democratic convention approaches. The president aims to energize African-American voters and secure backing from the Congressional Black Caucus to maintain his campaign's momentum.

What qualities make a successful politician? According to a new study, humor, charm, and courage are key traits for political success. Researchers found that aspiring politicians are motivated by a combination of ambition, idealism, and sometimes narcissism.

The study also highlighted the limited and often inadequate preparation for ministerial roles, suggesting reforms for better governance. The study analyzed the biographies of former Prime Ministers, MPs, and Speakers, including figures such as Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair, to identify consistent traits.

Among the important qualities for political success are charm, optimism, academic ability, good memory skills, and effective decision-making skills. The study also emphasized the importance of humor, as voters tend to forgive politicians who make them laugh.

Additionally, a strong constitution and verbal skills are crucial for success in politics.

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank, has released Project 2025, a comprehensive blueprint for a potential Donald Trump presidency. The 900-page document outlines a range of proposals in areas such as government, immigration, climate and the economy, abortion, and tech and education.

Some of the key proposals include placing the entire federal bureaucracy under direct presidential control, expanding the power of the president, eliminating job protections for government employees, increasing funding for a wall on the US-Mexico border, slashing federal money for renewable energy research, banning pornography and shutting down tech and telecoms companies that facilitate access to explicit content, and providing greater school choice and parental control over schools. The document also calls for the elimination of certain terms from federal regulations and laws.

The Heritage Foundation claims that Project 2025 was written by former Trump appointees and reflects input from over 100 conservative organizations. However, Trump has distanced himself from the document, stating that he knows nothing about it and disagrees with some of the proposals.

Despite this, several people associated with the project have worked in Trump's administration or as allies in his re-election campaign.

After President Joe Biden's disastrous performance in the first debate with Donald Trump, his campaign team has taken measures to control the situation. They scheduled meetings with journalists and sent out interview scripts to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

The goal of these interviews was to clear up doubts about Biden's cognitive state. However, it has been revealed that at least two of these interviews were scripted, with the reporters receiving a list of questions in advance.

This revelation has sparked controversy and criticism, including accusations of using Black journalists as "human shields." This is particularly significant as the African-American community has traditionally been loyal to the Democratic Party, but recent polls have shown a shift away from the party.

These scripted interviews could further exacerbate this loss of support. Although the campaign defended the practice initially, they have now stated that they will no longer send questions before interviews.

The Essence Fest of Culture, one of the largest gatherings of Black Americans, took place in New Orleans over the holiday weekend. The event, celebrating its 30th anniversary, focused heavily on the upcoming presidential election.

Vice President Kamala Harris attended and spoke at the event, along with a parade of Black Democrats who emphasized the importance of preventing another Donald Trump presidency. Harris stated that this election is probably the most significant of our lifetime, and that each individual has the power to decide what kind of country they want to live in.

NY1 political anchor Errol Louis also attended the event and participated in multiple panels, discussing his insights and experiences with NY1 anchor Dean Meminger.

As Donald Trump continues to consider his vice presidential pick, a new Daily Mail poll reveals who voters want to see on the GOP ticket. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 likely voters, found that Senator Tim Scott topped the list with 13 percent of respondents saying they want to see him as Trump's VP.

This is significant as Scott is the only black Republican in the Senate and his inclusion on the ticket could help Trump garner support from minority voters. Following Scott, Senator Marco Rubio and former neurosurgeon Ben Carson tied for second place with 12 percent of the vote.

Trump's team has reportedly narrowed their choices down to a shortlist of three, which includes Scott, Rubio, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. As the announcement draws nearer, speculation continues to mount about who Trump will ultimately choose as his running mate.

In a sad turn of events, several notable Black individuals have passed away in 2024. Among them are NFL cornerback Khyree Jackson and his two high school teammates who died in a car crash in Maryland.

Renauld White, an influential model and actor, also passed away in hospice care at the age of 80. Additionally, iconic actor Bill Cobbs died at the age of 90, leaving behind a career that spanned over 50 years.

The world of fashion lost a trailblazer with the death of model and actor Archie Cooley, known as "The Gunslinger." Other notable deaths include sociologist and psychologist Dr.

Nathan Hare, civil rights activist John Mitchell, and leading theoretician of nonviolence Reverend James Lawson. The list goes on, highlighting the lives and contributions of these remarkable individuals who will be greatly missed.

The family of William Green, a Black man who was shot and killed by police in 2020, is calling for an investigation into the incident by the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. The officer who shot Green, Michael Owen, was recently acquitted of murder and several other charges.

Green was found sleeping in the back of his vehicle and under the influence of an unknown substance before he was handcuffed and placed in the passenger's seat of a police car. Owen shot Green six times during a struggle inside the vehicle.

The family argues that Owen violated Green's civil rights and questions his account of the incident since he was not wearing a body camera. The family settled with the police department for $20 million in September 2020, the highest payout on record for a wrongful death lawsuit in the US.

Many people in South Carolina doubt that Tim Scott, a senator and former presidential candidate, would make the ideal pick as Donald Trump's vice president. While he has been a strong supporter of Trump and has shown the ability to tap into billionaire networks and rally Black voters, those who know Scott personally say he lacks the capacity to be the aggressive defender that Trump desires in a running mate.

Scott is described as being too nice and too good for politics by his colleagues, and his faith is considered to be his cornerstone. However, some speculate that he could bring sobriety and optimism to a Trump presidency.

Trump has yet to make an announcement on his vice presidential pick, but Scott's chances remain uncertain.

The Pew Research Center has published the results of surveys conducted in January and April examining the opinions of African-American voters on the upcoming November election, domestic and foreign policy, and their thoughts on President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. The surveys found that 83% of Black voters identified with or leaned toward the Democratic Party.

However, 29% of Black voters under the age of 50 favored Trump, indicating that he has made some small inroads with younger African Americans. Despite calls for Biden to drop out of the 2024 race, a CBS News/YouGov survey found that 58% of Black voters still want him to run for reelection.

Education and strengthening the economy were identified as the top domestic policy priorities for African-American voters. A potential question for future debates between Biden and Trump would be to ask about their views on the intersection of education, faith, and community service.

Former President Donald Trump is under fire for making a "racist" claim during a speech at the Black Conservative Foundation gala. Trump argued that Black voters like him because of his many indictments and mug shot.

He stated that some people believed Blacks liked him because they saw him as being discriminated against, due to his numerous charges and legal troubles. Trump's speech took place in South Carolina just hours before the state's presidential primary.

Political commentators, such as Jonathan Capehart of MSNBC, criticized Trump's remarks, calling them "unbelievably racist." Others, like Betsy Ankney, campaign manager for Nikki Haley, condemned the speech as more of the "same chaos" and "drama" from Trump.

Jasmine Harris, Black media director for President Joe Biden's campaign, labeled Trump an "anti-Black tyrant" in response to his comments.

President Biden is facing a chain of unanswerable questions that threaten his bid for reelection. One of the main questions is whether Biden is fit to serve as president now, considering signs of his age affecting him have been more common in recent months.

The issue lies in defining the standard for fitness and determining what qualities a president must possess. Another question is whether Biden would be fit to serve in a second term if reelected.

A majority of Americans believe Biden is too old to be effective as president, but he is still within the margin of error in national and state polls against Trump. The central question that Democrats are struggling with is whether they have a better chance of winning the presidency without Biden.

Despite Biden's potential decline in the coming years, he still benefits from robust opposition to Trump. The issue then becomes: if not Biden, then who? Replacing Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee is possible, but determining how such a replacement might be determined remains tricky.

The party could decide to vote for someone instead of Biden, or a truncated rerun of the primary could be held. However, all of these questions are difficult to answer, and it is hard to predict how they will be resolved.

Congressional Black Caucus Chair, Representative Steven Horsford, has voiced his support for President Joe Biden, further bolstering Biden's argument that his base is still behind him amid calls for him to step aside in the race. Horsford commended Biden's achievements in creating equity, taking on big corporations, and protecting rights and freedoms.

Biden has faced criticism and calls to drop out of the race after his damaging debate performance. However, influential Black lawmakers, including Horsford, have continued to support him.

Biden has focused his efforts on appealing to Black voters, visiting a Black church, giving interviews to Black radio hosts, and planning to speak at an NAACP convention. Horsford's support may encourage other members of Congress to follow suit and back Biden.
